It can also be understood simply as a wrist or an inward curve. Solid and restrained on the outside, the architecture becomes warm and open within the inner courtyard. Exterior spaces are clearly articulated, forming both public and private courtyard areas.
The project seeks contextuality, integrity, and new forms of expression through the use of traditional materials. A continuous charred timber cladding emphasizes the sculptural quality of the volume, while simultaneously contrasting with and highlighting the brightness of the interior. This creates an allusion to the shaded depths of the forest and the sunlit openness of a woodland clearing.
