The project involves the conversion of part of a former scythe factory, adapting and revitalizing former production spaces and the surrounding territory for a new life. The Lumber Room project transforms former industrial premises into a specialized automobile exhibition space, where architecture becomes a backdrop for exceptional technical objects. The authentic industrial structure, large spans, and robust structural system provide the conditions necessary for exhibiting unique automobiles, historic vehicles, and a complete collection of Porsche scale models. The new function is integrated with an auto service and a vehicle security service.
The open spatial structure allows for a clear exhibition logic, in which visitor movement is organized as a continuous narrative of the evolution of automotive design, technology, and engineering. Large-scale exhibits are arranged to be perceived from multiple perspectives, while their forms, details, and material qualities are revealed through directional lighting and a controlled background. The space also features the first Porsche tractor in history.
A separate, visually focused zone is designed for the exhibition of collectible Porsche scale models, specifically adapted for the display of small objects. Display cases, modular exhibition systems, and subtle lighting solutions emphasize scale, detail, and collectible value. These zones act as a contrast to the large-scale exhibits, allowing visitors to experience the automobile both as an engineering object and as a cultural artifact.
The project seeks to preserve and present authentic historic spaces and details, respectfully complementing them with new elements. A dialogue between old and new. Rationality and authenticity. The opening of a previously closed territory. New outdoor public spaces are created, including a covered outdoor plaza.
